About Museum of the North

Museum of the North features an overview of the culture and heritage of Alaska. Here you will see art pieces and artifacts along with history using information displays, audio recordings, videos and pictures. 

All ages will find something to enjoy at this Alaska museum. On the upper level, there are toys for young ones to learn and explore with and the lower level is the museum area that teaches more in depth. The younger ones may enjoy hands-on toys and activities and the older ones can read all about the past of Alaska and its people. 


Museum of the North Details

The museum is open throughout the year but is closed on Sundays in the fall and winter, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Museum of the North hours are: September 1st-May 31st: Monday- Saturday 9am-5pm and June 1st- August 31st: Daily 9am-7pm.

Alaska Museum of the North ticket prices are: $12 for Adults(Ages 15+), $7 for Youth(Ages 5-14) and Children under 5 are FREE.

An audio tour, behind the scenes tour and movies are offered at the museum for an extra cost. The prices are: Audio Tour: $4, Behind-the-scenes Tour (Summer only): $10 and Museum Movie Ticket: $5.

Parking is available in the Visitor Parking Lot. Cost is $.50 an hour or $3.00 a day.

There are disabled parking spaces in front of Main Entrance and a certain amount of wheelchairs available for rent.  With advanced notice, auxiliary aids and services can be provided. Closed captioning on audio/video presentations and large text print of object labels also available.
