A Detroit Zoo Senior discount ticket is offered to all those 62 and older.
A military discount is offered to those on active duty with a proper ID.
April 26, September 6, 2017 -Detroit Zoo Senior days. On these days, from 10am to 3pm, guests 62 years and older as well as their caregiver receive FREE admission.
Non-school groups of 20 receive a group discount. You can purchase tickets online or call to make a group reservation.
Wednesdays, July - August, 2017 - Summer Concert Series. On Wednesdays during July and August admission $6 after 6pm. The concert is FREE and the zoo is open until 8pm. Bring a blanket and pack a picnic.
Detroit zoo has a Facebook page on which they publish news and any existing zoo coupons or discounts.
If you have a membership to a different AZA accredited zoo then you should qualify for a 50% discount.
Some local hotels offer a Detroit Zoo hotel package. These include MotorCity Casino Hotel, Embassy Suites Detroit-Southfield, area Marriott owned hotels, Comfort Inns and Holiday Inn. These can be found at the zoo’s website or at the individual hotel’s website.
Tri-County residents receive a discount on yearly memberships.
Memberships include FREE admission for one year to Detroit Zoo and Belle Isle Nature Zoo, FREE parking, advance ticket sales to certain yearly events, special invitations, discounted admission to zoos and aquarium throughout the U.S. and more.
Detroit Zoo discount coupons, deals and specials often are for a limited time and have an expiration date.

About Detroit Zoo
This Detroit Zoo is located in Royal Oak, Michigan. It is home to over 3,300 animals from 280 species. The AZA-accredited zoo is one of Michigan’s largest attractions. This zoo has won awards for many of its exhibits including Arctic Ring of Life, National Amphibian Conservation Center, Wildlife Interpretive Gallery and Great Apes of Harambee.
Arctic Ring of Life features a large viewing tunnel that visitor pass under to see swimming polar bears and seals. It also includes an ice cave, indoor viewing and Exploration Station.
African Grasslands includes the Giraffe Encounter from late spring to early fall.
African Forest is home to the Great Apes of Harambee as well as chimpanzees, gorillas, drills and many birds.
North American Grasslands houses grizzly and black bears, bison, bald eagles, wolverines, and a prairie dog exhibit with viewing bubbles.
The Belle Island Nature Zoo area is six acres of undisturbed forest wetland that includes a Deer Encounter, reptiles, fish and amphibian’s exhibits, indoor beehive, spider exhibit and Creation Station.

The zoo is open every day of the year with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Hours for the zoo are April 1 thru Labor Day – 9am to 5pm with Wednesdays in July and August closing at 8pm. The day after Labor Day thru October 31 – 10am to 5pm. November 1 thru March 31 – 10am to 4pm. Belle Isle Nature Zoo generally opens one hour after the main zoo opens.
Regular Detroit Zoo ticket prices are Adults: $14, Seniors (62 and up): $10, Children (2-14): $10 and under 2 years old are FREE.
Parking is $6 per car or van.
The zoo has a simulator ride, 4-D theater, railroad, carousel and a giraffe encounter. All of these require an added fee. Fees range from $2 - $5 per person. The railroad ride allows FREE rides to those under 36 inches tall and operates only from spring to fall.
Picnic areas are available inside the zoo. One large area is behind the Wildlife Interpretive Gallery with several other small areas throughout the zoo. You can bring in your own food and drink. However, no grills, alcoholic drink, drinking straws or Styrofoam can be brought into the zoo.
There are several concession stands located throughout the Detroit Zoo that serve such items as hamburgers, hot dogs, cheeseburgers, chicken tenders, garden burgers, fries, pizza, snacks and drinks.
Rentals of single and double strollers, wagons, wheelchairs and ECVs are available at the Main Train Station. The costs range from $7 to $25 plus deposit.
