About Big Bear Alpine Zoo

The Big Bear Alpine zoo, formally known as Moonridge Animal Park, is on 2.5 acres of land near the Bear Mountain Ski Resort and the Big Bear Mountain Golf Course. The animals that call the Big Bear Alpine Zoo home are animals that have come from the public, other zoo or state, county and federal agencies.

Visitors are offered a up-close look at the animals. This zoo has about 150 animals from 85 different species. It focuses on native California species from the alpine and sub-alpine animal groups. In addition, over 200 injured wild birds and animals have been treated at this facility with most of then returned to the wild.  

Some of the animals that you can expect to see at the Big Bear Alpine Zoo are American kestrel, barn owl, black bear, bobcat, coyote, bald eagle, grey fox, grizzly bear, mountain lion, raccoon, snow leopard, timber wolf and more. The zoo also visitors including a daily FREE Feeding Tour and Animal Presentation.


Big Bear Alpine Zoo Details

The Big Bear Alpine Zoo is open every day of the year with the exception of Christmas Day.  Bad weather may cause the park to close.

Hours for the zoo are Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend - 10am - 5pm every day.  The rest of the year, the hours are 10am to 4pm everyday. The zoo is sometimes closed for snow removal.

Regular admission prices are Adults $12, Children (3-9) $9 and Children under 3 are FREE. Seniors (60) and military are $9.

Parking is FREE.

A snack stand is available through the summer months.

Guests can bring in outside food and drink. The zoo asks that you NOT bring in any glass of any kind, aluminum cans, breakable items, plastic lids, straws or alcohol.

Note: The sign for the zoo is small so look closely for the sign across from the ski resort.
