20 Free & Cheap Things to Do in Youngstown, Ohio

 

Look at the stars for FREE at the Ward Beecher Planetarium in Youngstown.  They also occasionally have laser light shows for FREE.

The Boardman Park hosts several Family Nights in the Park, Senior Fun Days and Outdoor Family Days throughout the summer into September for FREE.  These offer activities such as crafts, hikes, wagon rides and movies.

Have a day outside!  Hike or drive through Mill Creek Park.  The 2,600 acres offer gardens, golf courses, lakes, biking, hiking and waterfalls. FREE.

Smell a flower at the beautiful Fellow Riverside Gardens. FREE.

Go bird-watching at Mill Creek Wildlife Sanctuary and Hitchcock Woods.

Trolley rides are also available at Mill Creek Metroparks for the public on special days throughout the year.  Costs range from $5 - $12.

Have a day on the water at Mill Creek Metroparks.  Rent a kayak ($6-$10) or pedal boat ($3-$4) or hop on the passenger boat at Lake Glacier ($.50-$1).

Grab some muffins at Maggie's Magic Muffins!  Seriously, they are delicious! 

Watch a movie at Boardman Tinseltown.  They offer a Senior Day (Monday: $6), Discount Days (Tuesday: $5), Early Bird Discounts (before 1 pm: $6.25) and Student Discounts. (Some restrictions may apply.)

First Night Youngstown is a New Year's Eve celebration with bands, arts and events.  Adults: $10, Senior and Military: $5, Students 13-25 years old with ID: $15 and children under 12 are FREE.

Catch some walleye at Berlin Lake.

Check out the Oak Hill Cemetery

Arms Family Museum is the home of the Arms family preserved with original period piece rooms.  Adults: $4, Seniors over 60: $3, Children 3-18: $2 and under 3 are FREE.

You can also visit the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center the same day for FREE when you buy tickets and visit the Arms Family Museum.

Go biking on the MetroParks Bikeway. FREE.

Take the kids to the Oh Wow! Children's Museum.  Grandparents are FREE on the last Wednesday of every month with the purchase of one or more general admission or as a guest of a member.  General admission for Children and Adults: $8, Seniors over 65, Educators and Veterans: $7 and under 2 years of age are FREE.

Learn about the steel industry at the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor.  Adults: $7, Seniors: $6, Students: $3, Children under 6 are FREE.  YSU students are FREE.  As of 2016, there is a AAA discount of $1.

Get some culture at the Butler Institute of American Art.  The museum is FREE to visit.  However, they appreciate donations.
